I've been really busy lately helping people find good health insurance.  It is frustrating to me how there are so many different underwriting guidelines for all the medical conditions out there.  With the way the economy it is no surprise that so many people I'm talking are either in some sort of counseling for depression or anxiety. 

In my state of Illinois, Blue Cross Blue Shield has a huge percentage of the market share.  They are a great company and very highly rated and I place about 70% of my clients with them.  One of the problems I've had lately is how strict they are with mental health issues.  I'm not referring to serious mental health issues like bi-polar or manic disorders but more so with issues like anxiety and mild depression.

If someone is in counseling and it is ongoing this is an automatic decline.  They will only consider someone after completion of treatment but this is based on several factors.  These factors would include original diagnosis/reason for treatment and length of time in treatment. 

There are other health insurance companies that do business in Illinois like Aetna and Humana that will issue a policy for someone that is currently in counseling.  There maybe a slight rate increase and they won't cover the cost of counseling but having the health insurance is still the most important thing.

I've had a chance to meet a bunch of life coaches and since some of them are technically licensed psychologist and therapists, seeing them may actually get you declined if it is for more than career counseling.
